Details

Opened in 1913 as a cinema and skating rink. In 1928 the original architect G Percy Pratt extended and reconstructed the building adding balcony, stage and stagehouse. There was an orchestra pit and organ. In 1971 it was converted, the stalls area to bingo and the balcony to a twin cinema. Outwardly the building resembled an Assembly rooms of some grandeur. The stagehouse was sealed off by a suspended ceiling and little left internally of the original features or of the 1928 reconstruction, prior to demolition in 2004.
