Details

The New Olympus Theatre is a conversion of the ex-Picturedrome/Ritz which had been operating as a bingo hall for some years. The Gloucester Operatic and Dramatic Society (GODS) which had become a professional group, had outgrown its 160 seat theatre and converted the building, after six months' volunteer effort, into the 426 seat theatre, opening in March 1986. The property changed hands in 2008 and the City Council made some money available under its Interim Historic Areas Grant Scheme to carry out repair works and undertake a feasibility study.
