Details

In many ways a traditional valleys Workmen's Hall - built by subscription by the local coalminers at a rate of 2p per week from their wages. At the grand cost of £3,400, the Hall was constructed in 1893 and opened in March 1894, providing the local community with theatre, cinema, library and reading room. A ruptured heating pipe in the cinema in the mid 1970s led to the closure of the building and for many years it lay disused and derelict. In the early 1990s, Valley and Vale Community Arts and the local community worked to restore and reopen the building. In 2000 Creation Development Trust was formed to take over the management of the building, keeping its facilities at the heart of its local community.
