Details

Ashlar sandstone street front and end wall only survive from 1904 building with entrance through a rusticated arch (now over clad) between shop units and two floors of flats above. Projecting corner turret with dome. The interior was once similar to Swanston’s magnificent King’s in Edinburgh and was gutted in 1937 to be rebuilt in streamlined cinema mode (now three cinemas). Fragments are said to survive above modern ceilings. Cinema used ceased prior to Christmas 2000 and the building is currently dark.
