Details

A wooden pavilion in use from 1882 was replaced by the present multi-purpose building in 1928. Single storey sprawl of brick and stone clad in buff faience, in nondescript style of contemporary municipal swimming baths, fronting octagonal hall with steeply pitched red tile roof capped by lantern. The venue was constructed to host tea dances, summer concert parties and such seaside fare, but became famous for variety.
