Details
Following a 25 year campaign for a theatre in the new town, the Milton Keynes Theatre opened in 1999. Designed by Blonski Heard Architects, with Carr & Angier as theatre consultants. The building complex includes the theatre and foyer spaces, Art Gallery (which functions separately to the theatre), tourist information centre and car park. The 1,400-seat auditorium is designed to host drama and music, and has a fully retractable ceiling that provides a more intimate space with 900 seating capacity. The theatre is well established as a regional venue for national tours, and also provides a home for the local community via its Creative Learning department and highly successful Youth Theatre.
