Details

The Grand opened as the Public Hall in 1902. The building, set back from the main road, has an imposing Italianate frontage in three bays; the centre bay with a colonnade of five round-arched windows with frieze and tympanum over, the side bays with exits and round-arched window above. It had a two-tier auditorium, equipped with stage facilities, and also a large ballroom. No further interior description found. The Grand was a cine-variety house until 1937. From 1937-40 it was a cinema. It had a variety of later uses, including a roller skating rink and a factory, until becoming a night club. This closed in 1992, but has since reopened.
