Details
A cinéariety house. The building is long and narrow with a fly tower at the rear with a pitched roof. Except for the frontage the walls are of unadorned red brick. The façe to Abbey Street is of red brick with faience or artificial stone dressings. On the first floor, the centre bay has an arched window with a bowed balustrade, bearing the inscription SCALA THEATRE. The second floor has narrower sash windows set between pilasters, above which is a frieze and a modillion cornice. The façe is crowned by a pediment, in the tympanum of which is a roundel with the date 1914 although, the building did not, in fact, open until the following year. Auditorium with one balcony and panelled side walls. Shallow stage.
