The Theatres Trust

Princess Royal Theatre

Details

The Port Talbot Civic Centre comprises a main building with two wings, the three parts forming half of a hexagon, three storeys high, in sand-coloured brick with slate roof. The main block has a pyramidal roof with clock-face and Borough Coat-of-Arms below, over the Civic Centre entrance. The Princess Royal Theatre is located in the right hand wing, occupying the ground and first floor level with its own entrance of two sets of double doors approached by steps in the middle of the wing. The foyer houses the box office/office, stairs to the balcony and two double-door entrances into the auditorium. This is multi-purpose with seating for up to 500 on stacking chairs. Wide concert platform stage; no flying facilities (cloths are rolled). Unusually the balcony is supported by two sturdy pillars! and behind these is a large bar at rear. The balcony has fixed seating for 350 and its own bar in the upstairs foyer area. Two large round multi-lights suspended from the ceiling form the only feature; internal decoration is light wood. Design-build is credited to Condor Construction.
