Details

This is an extension of the Suncentre Leisure Complex and replaced the original Pavilion Theatre (1908-1974, q.v.). The building is essentially a steel framed construction clad with steel sheeting. It shares foyer space with the leisure centre. Finishes in non-public areas are minimal but the auditorium, stalls, upper circle and circle (all with fixed seating) are well designed and focused clearly on the wide proscenium opening. The stage is slightly raked (1 in 35), and is well-equipped, with a performing area of 25m x 13.23m and good wing space, and three hemp sets in addition to 44 counterweight single purchase sets. An unusual but successful theatre development which was partly funded by the EU.
