Details

This theatre has claims to be one of the best dual-use theatres built in the North - as part of the Oulder Hill Community School it provides educational facilities, and it is also available to touring companies. However the past management committee has not promoted theatre use to the full, and as a result a fine facility is used less than it might be. There is an adjustable soft proscenium stage, at the rear of which are choir stalls in fixed tiers. The grid has twenty-four hemp sets, and the orchestra pit (with lift) can accommodate twenty musicians. There is no sub-stage area. Seating is in a single rake with central gangway and cross-over, with a bar/lounge at the rear of the auditorium. There is good legroom throughout the auditorium, but disabled access is limited. Externally the building blends well with the school and is predominantly glass-fronted with grey shuttering. Unfortunately it is situated out of the town centre, although it is well signposted, and parking facilities are good.
