Details

The theatre was converted in 1974 from the mortuary of the New End Hospital. Rendered building of domestic appearance with steeply-pitched roof; advanced central entrance porch with pediment. The auditorium is flat-floored with retractable seating and end stage. Originally single-storey, a mezzanine floor was introduced over the auditorium in 1986 to house a theatre bar and offices, for which windows were inserted in the roof. At the same time the auditorium was reseated taking the capacity to 120, and a new stage was built. The theatre attracts actors and directors of international fame and new writing is featured in the repertoire.
