Details

Following their departure from the Cockpit Theatre (q.v.) the Soho Theatre Company searched for premises – finally settling upon the empty West End Great Synagogue which they transformed into a two-hundred seat theatre, three rehearsal/studio spaces, workrooms, script library, offices and a restaurant/bar. The architects for this unusual conversion have created a large amount of space yet none of it feels cramped. The auditorium is extremely utilitarian and lacks the excitement of the rest of the building yet it retains a sense of intimacy and comfort with good sightlines. From the road the interior is fully visible and inviting through the largely glass façe. A splendid new theatre in the heart of the West End.
