Details

The Chicken Shed Theatre Company’s first home was a chicken shed! After a short time it was evicted and was homeless until the project to build a new theatre was realised in 1994. The main elevation of the theatre is faced with traditional brick while windows of differing proportion, scale and colour add visual interest. The auditorium, scene workshop and principal volumes are faced with profiled metal cladding. Simple pad and beam foundations support the structural steel frame. The auditorium seating is a single rake with slips above which are open lighting galleries. The stage is open thrust. Care has been taken to retain as many trees as possible and, with appropriate landscaping, the theatre is in an attractive setting.
