Details

Opened as the Hampstead Drill Hall and Assembly Rooms, the building was a community centre for local people. Brick building in plain style, the interior had a curved ceiling with exposed iron trusses. In 1920 it became the Everyman Theatre with the addition of raked seating, a proscenium, a scene door, and the adaptation of the basement area to dressing rooms. The entrance was modified to form a foyer with exhibition space. The theatre passed through many changes of fortune and was best known for the presentation of modern plays. In 1931 the Everyman Theatre Guild moved to Swiss Cottage and the Everyman became the Everyman Cinema, now known as the Everyman Cinema Club.
