Kilworth House Theatre

3768

Kilworth House is a small country house, built in 1888 by A E Purdie for J B N Entwisle. The house is now a boutique hotel, and in 2007 an open air theatre was built in the grounds, near to the lake. A largely wooden construction, it has a bar tucked in beneath and behind the stalls rake, with the technical (sound and lighting) box above. Seating for 540 is in a single rake of padded seats, with sail-like canopies covering both seating and the stage. Reminiscent of other open air and private country house theatres, the audience are invited to arrive early and picnic in the grounds prior to a performance.

During the winter, theatre performances also take place in the Victorian Orangery - a beautiful Grade II* listed conservatory of cast iron and wood with plain and stained leaded glass.
