Details

The Little Theatre was new-built rather than (as more commonly) converted from an older building. It was built on waste ground given by the city council, opening in incomplete state in 1951. This part contains the theatre, which has some unsatisfactory features but is unusual in having a generously proportioned stage (which, however, lacks height). The auditorium is in a single rake. In 1981 a new two storey extension was added, containing foyer, lounge and studio theatre all well planned and furnished, in contrast to the older building. The two parts are both brick faced but unmatching in character. The roof is corrugated asbestos.
