Details

Erected in 1938 as the Trecynon Welfare Hall the building was re-opened as a theatre in 1990 after considerable refurbishment. Major works were undertaken in 1995 to provide front of house facilities. Originally a plain three-bay rendered front, the centre bay slightly advanced with three windows above the entrance canopy and a pedimental gable combining the date, 1938, and the name COLISEUM. The 1995 extensions have been sympathetically designed although, inevitably, they upset the balance of the original concept. The auditorium is rectangular with a rectangular proscenium and linear ornament on the adjoining walls and cove over. The decor has the effect of bringing the eye directly to the stage.
