The Assembly Room at the Griffin Inn in Kingston Market Place was built by John Williams after he took over the Inn in 1851. Entrance was through the Inn. In 2003 the Assembly Room became a bar and entrance is through the Griffin Centre at the rear of the Inn. The ceiling, frieze and other original features, possibly obscured for some years, have been restored. The Assembly Room is at first floor level, now approached by a staircase and through the door in the rear wall of what is presumably an orchestra recess with canted walls. This is framed by a pair of piers with moulded brackets supporting a deep corniced lintel to form a proscenium. Round-headed windows at one side and one at rear, ornate panelled ceiling, plaster frieze and mouldings.
