  • Description
Colour-tinted postcard showing the façade and part of a sidewall of the Woolwich Hippodrome within a streetscape of Wellington Street in Woolwich, London. The theatre, with its broad front in brick with stone dressings, dominates the right hand side of the postcard. It has five major bays with the centre and outer bays advancing to three storeys (over two in between) and crowned by iron-crested pavilion roofs. An iron canopy bearing the name of the theatre covers steps leading up to the central entrance. Another canopy continues along the sidewall with a sign across its face reading TWICE NIGHTLY AT 6.40 & 9.10. More signage appears above the canopy advertising a show featuring the comedian Sam Mayo.
