Hippodrome
The theatre was timber built, and opened on 27 January 1896 as the Wedgwood Theatre, before it was completed. The auditorium could hold 2,000 patrons on one level of wooden benches. The act-drop, wings and proscenium were painted by George Collier. Became the Hippodrome in 1997, and from 1911 presented films as well as variety theatre. By the 1940s it had become a cinema. Demolished 1947.
