Queen's Theatre

1779

Built on a site previously occupied by the London Music Hall - an 1862 conversion of Hayward’s Hotel which in itself had enjoyed a rich entertainment history, finishing its days as the Royal Amphitheatre & Circus run by Edward Garcia. The exterior was a plain Georgian façade of four storeys, in faced brick, with a pillared canopy running the width, covering the pavement, entrances and exits. The interior was said to be ornate with scroll plasterwork. In August 1890 it was severely damaged by fire and rebuilt. It operated until 1911, when the lease came to an end and it was demolished.
