Royal Pavilion

32

A former cinema dating from 1909. Despite limited stage facilities, it was used sporadically for live entertainment, including pierrot and minstrel shows when the weather was poor. Later, the building was sub-divided with the theatre in the former circle using a stage built out over the former stalls. In 1996 improvements took place introducing well-raked seating, reducing the capacity to 220, and extending the depth of the stage. It was the only small-scale theatre in the town and, despite severe lack of height over the stage, was popular with local societies. The stalls area became Crazy Scots Karaoke Bar.
