Details

Arcola Theatre was established in 2000 in a converted building in Arcola Street, Dalston. After ten successful years in cramped surroundings, the company moved in January 2011 to new premises in Ashwin Street. The Colourworks building was a nineteenth century paint-makers factory. The new premises contain the same mixture of spaces as at their former home in Arcola Street: two studio/theatres, workshop/rehearsal space, caféar and "green technology incubator". This latter refers to Arcola's pledge to become 'the world's first carbon neutral theatre', particularly by developing and employing low carbon technologies to power the building and the auditorium in particular. The new building also provides space for a second workshop/rehearsal space to accommodate the growing youth and community programme, and to expand the technology incubator.
