Details

Built as a cinéariety theatre on the site of the Empire Music Hall, which was a wooden building, erected in 1910 and burnt down in 1911. The building is of red brick with a corner entrance with shop units along the two streets. There is a small squat fly tower. The building was divided in 1973 and again altered in 1982 to form two snooker halls, one on top of the other, in the stage area. Work also began in 1982 on the conversion of the stalls into a snooker hall, however, plans were modified and a twin cinema was created (now disused), with the stalls divided longitudinally. A false ceiling divided the stalls from the circle. Remains of the ornate plaster work balcony front can be seen but both boxes at circle level have been partially dismantled.
