Details

Opened in 1892, as a music hall, built by the Livermore Brothers, the People’s Palace was said to be a replica of the People’s Palace, Dundee, by the same architect. It became a cinema in 1912 and was rebuilt by Frank Verity in 1928. In 1947 it became a Gaumont. A proposal to demolish and redevelop the site was turned down in 1974 and the building subsequently became a nightclub. The façe survives almost intact.
