Details

The large assembly room which had been attached to the mid-nineteenth century Castle Hotel following the demolition of part of the hotel for the construction of Whittaker Avenue, was converted to a theatre by F C Mouflet in 1890. Mouflet later employed Matcham to build the Richmond Theatre on another site (1899). It had a stage with proscenium, and a balcony and music gallery, but has all been much altered and the remains are now fragmentary.
