Shunt to keep its London Bridge home for another year

Experimental theatre group Shunt has secured its current venue in the vaults of London Bridge station for another year. The collective, which thought it would have to leave the space due to the planned redevelopment of the station, have been allowed to remain thanks to support from a number of organisations including Network Rail. The Shunt Vaults will reopen this Friday (February 5).

Shunt co-founder David Rosenberg said: “It’s definitely one of the most fantastic spaces in London and to be able to programme such an incredible space, which has become very popular, is fantastic.”

The vaults will run a programme of solo work for the first two weekends after they reopen. A new project will replace the Shunt Lounge, which ended in November last year.

Rosenberg said that Shunt would continue to look for a new, more permanent venue in the London Bridge area and said that the company had not yet received a decision on whether they will be given the cultural space in the One Tower Bridge development.

Meanwhile, the company has a second venue in the London Bridge area – in a former cigar warehouse – which they have permission to occupy until January 2011. Shunt’s show Money recently extended its run there until March.
