Demolition begins at Ayr’s Civic Theatre

16th April 2010

The demolition of a much loved theatre has begun. Ayr’s Civic is being stripped bare by contractors, who moved in on Monday. The iconic theatre played host to a range of top shows during its heyday, including visits from Elvis Presley’s original guitarist Scotty Moore.

The building was also regarded as a valuable tool on the Ayrshire amateur and music drama circuit. Bill Gray, property and asset manager for South Ayrshire Council, confirmed: “Demolition work on the Civic Theatre began as planned on Monday, April 12.

“Contractors are working on the internal parts of the building first and the exterior demolition works will commence shortly.”
