Former Gateway Theatre building in Chester still in Tip Top condition

22nd April 2010

The old Chester Gateway Theatre has now been home to Tip Top Productions for three years. Rebranded as The Forum Studio Theatre, during that time they have opened the doors to more than 50 productions, some amateur and some professional. Using the studio theatre, the group has been working on some impressive improvements to the interior of the building.

Lee Hassett from Tip Top Productions said: “We have spent money on painting the outside and replacing some signage where feasible. “Other important visible changes are that the whole paved area outside has been pressure washed, some planters have been provided and more recently we have replaced the window displays providing a much cleaner look to the outside of the windows. We are now looking for people keen to create the window displays for shows.

“We also like to think the front of house area is looking and feeling much fresher, benefiting from fresh paint, and the coffee shop has had a refresh and is now also selling alcohol during evening performances.”

In the studio theatre itself, a new gas-fired heater has been fitted with circulation fans. Lee revealed Tip Top is receiving an increasing number of enquiries from other companies – both amateur and professional – who want to use the theatre space.
