£1.5million needed to revamp Matlock Baths Pavilion

10th June 2010

Campaigners hoping to transform Matlock Bath’s Pavilion in to a theatre and exhibition centre have revealed their plans will cost around £1.5million. Most of the Ballroom, wing rooms and stage area will remain unchanged and the plans will include disabled access, a goods lift, storage space for chairs and toilets will be upgraded.

After three months of work, the group has unveiled its draft plans, showing what the Pavilion may look like in future. Open days will be held in the Pump Room of the building this weekend between 10am and 4pm.

The group’s plans include a 400-seat theatre, which can be changed into an open space to serve a variety of events, a grand front entrance with a canopy to the road and a foyer shared with the Peak Mining Museum.

Derbyshire Dales District Council, which own the building, has given the group six months to create a viable proposal to take over the running of the building.
