Press Release: Defending Champions retain The Theatres Trust People’s Choice Award 2011
27th September 2011
For immediate release Global Design Solutions is the winner of The Theatres Trust People’s Choice Award for the second year running. Matt Lloyd, Managing Director of GDS was presented with the sustainability award by the Chairman of The Theatres Trust, Rob Dickins, CBE, for its ArcSystem LED-based house lighting system.
The Award, as voted for by visitors to the PLASA 2011 show at Earls Court, is for products whose manufacturers believe are making inroads into sustainability – either through design, manufacture or operation. The high calibre products entered into the 2011 Awards included: The GDS ArcSystem; Core Lighting’s Point30 battery uplighter; Electronic Theatre Controls’ ETC Selador Desire D40 Lustr+ LED fixed head wash luminaire; Philips Entertainment Lighting’s Selecon PL1 RGB LED display lighting unit; Martin Professional’s MAC 101CT moving head white LED wash and Robe’s Robin 600 RGB.
Speaking at the ceremony drinks reception sponsored by Clay Paky, Mr Lloyd said, “The People’s Choice Award is important, because it’s voted for by the people in the industry – the people who actually use the equipment. That’s why it’s so important – the most important, in fact. It’s a great morale booster for the company, great for marketing and PR - we won the inaugural award last year with the BluesSystem, and this year it’s even sweeter to come here as defending champion and win again, which is just amazing!”
Tim Atkinson, Theatre Building Services Adviser for The Theatres Trust, who is delivering its European Regional Development Fund-backed ‘Ecovenue’ theatre sustainability initiative, said, “PLASA is the arena for manufacturers to show the latest and most amazing entertainment technology equipment. The People’s Choice Award reminds manufacturers that there is significant recognition for products that are leading on sustainability. Interest shown from both manufacturers and voters confirm this, and we look forward to welcoming more products next year.”
The Theatres Trust would like to thank Clay Paky for sponsorship of the People’s Choice Award drinks ceremony and all the sponsors and supporters that made this year’s PLASA stand possible. These included ETC, Philips Entertainment, Robert Juliat, ShowTex, Scenery Salvage, Orbital Sound, XL Video, Unusual, GDS, Central School of Speech and Drama, Royal Opera House, Energeno and PLASA Events.
