New Covid rules in Wales from 26 December

First Minister Mark Drakeford announces new measures including the reintroduction of 2m social distancing.

Group bookings will be limited to six, although they do not need to all be from the same household bubble.

It was later confirmed that theatres would be subject to a capacity cap of 200.

Theatres Trust Director Jon Morgan responds:

Theatres in Wales have worked so hard to keep audiences and performers safe, adapting quickly to the introduction of Covid passes last month, so the announcement today that social distancing will be reintroduced, while understandable, is a major blow. The festive period is critical for most theatres’ finances and considerable sums of money will have already been invested in panto and other seasonal shows. This will add further hardship to the theatres and those who work in them. We therefore welcome the additional support including the Winter Cultural Stability Fund announced by the Welsh government and hope that it will be distributed swiftly.
