DCMS Arts and Culture Levelling Up announcement

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport has announced details of its Levelling Up plan, identifying 109 Levelling Up for Culture Places, areas of historic low cultural engagement and spending.

Theatres Trust Director Jon Morgan says "Theatres Trust welcomes the DCMS Arts and Culture Levelling Up announcement, which outlines plans to prioritise 109 areas previously overlooked for support and an additional £75m of funding.

We believe that theatres have a hugely positive impact, on individuals and on communities, and that everyone should benefit from access to a theatre within easy reach of their home. We have long argued that theatres are vital community hubs and also can act as catalysts for regeneration, bringing footfall and investment into town centres, so we are pleased to see this being recognised within the government.

We look forward to working with theatres and local authorities in the Levelling Up for Culture Places, as well as DCMS and Arts Council England to help ensure that this support can have the maximum impact."
