Bradford Odeon receives support from National Lottery Heritage Fund

We are pleased that Bradford Live, the organisation behind saving Theatre at Risk Bradford Odeon, has received £959,500 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to share its journey with the public and engage them with the heritage of this historic building.

The Heritage Lottery project will involve the local community every step of the way with apprenticeship opportunities, use of Virtual Reality to reveal layers of history and volunteering opportunities to produce a photographic exhibition, heritage gallery and oral histories, as well as open days, backstage tours and school visits.

Bradford Odeon is on our Theatres at Risk register. It is one of the largest ciné-variety theatres of its day, boasting a ballroom, restaurant and 3,000 seat auditorium and with many restorable original features.

The announcement of the National Lottery grant is the latest good news for Bradford Live and the Odeon, following news in March that plans were given the green light to convert the Odeon into a 3,800-capacity live music venue.

Theatres Trust has been working with the team at Bradford Live throughout their journey to save the Odeon and provided a Statement of Significance to support their National Lottery Heritage Fund application.

We will continue to work with the team at Bradford Live to advise and support them in the journey to restore and reopen the historic venue.
