  • Residential apartment proposed next to Novello Theatre

The Trust responded cautiously to a proposal for a new apartment within Ivor Novello's former home next to the Novello Theatre. Further information and conditions were requested to safeguard the theatre from future conflict.

  • Hotel and entertainment complex proposed opposite Liverpool Playhouse

The Trust wrote with concerns regarding a proposal for a new hotel with a basement casino, night club, restaurant, bar and events space. While we did not object to the development, we requested conditions to protect performances from disturbance.

  • Temporary immersive theatre proposed in Southwark's Biscuit Factory

The Trust supported an application for change of use from light industrial to theatre use to allow an immersive theatre experience to utilise the space for a twelve month period.

  • Underbelly to return for 2019

The Trust supported a temporary planning permission for the erection of necessary structures to allow the Underbelly Festival to return to London's South Bank in Summer 2019.

  • Extension at Faversham's Arden Theatre to provide new changing roomns

The Trust supported a proposal by the Arden Theatre to build a side extension in order to provide separate changing rooms with toilet facilities, along with storage space to replace an existing external container.

  • Bar alterations at Edinburgh Playhouse

The Trust supported proposals for replacement glazed screens and doors to improve fire safety as part of general upgrades to the theatre's mezzanine bar.

  • Cinema use to return to Deal Regent

The Trust welcomed proposals to restore the Regent in Deal as a cinema. Originally built as a theatre, the Regent converted to a cinema and was most recently in use as a bingo hall but has been vacant for around ten years.

  • New development adjacent to Victoria Palace

The Trust objected to proposals for the next phase of the Nova development because current public realm plans would leave the theatre unable to handle large vehicles necessary for get-ins/get-outs and outside broadcasts.

  • Residential development adjacent to York's Grand Opera House

While not objecting to this proposal because the principle of residential use at the site has already been established, we made clear conditions and mitigations to protect the theatre from noise-related complaints must be included within any permission.

  • Revised proposals for second screen at Riverside Theatre in Woodbridge

Following our initial support for a previous version of this scheme which would enable the theatre to expand its cinema offer and allow it to run theatre and cinema simultaneously, we continued to support these revised proposals.

  • Variations to Richard Attenborough Theatre proposal at RADA

The Trust supported proposed amendments to a permission by Royal Academy of Dramatic Art which would deliver a more flexible and functional theatre space to the initial proposal for which the Trust commented in 2017.

  • Soundproofing works at Oxford Playhouse

The Trust supported a proposal for replacement rear fire doors and stage door at Oxford Playhouse to provide acoustic protection from noise generated by a new beergarden to the neighbouring pub.
