Theatres Trust salvo on Tameside theatre

24th June 2008

Tameside Council has been warned by the national theatre watchdog that it must be consulted on any development of Tameside Hippodrome. The Trust was alerted by a local former actress and dancer, who was put in touch with them when she wrote to culture secretary Andy Burnham to protest against the Ashton theatre’s closure. The Hippodrome closed its doors on 1 April 2008. Tameside Council said it was shut down for refurbishment..
