Theatres at Risk secure Historic England funding
Theatres Trust welcomes news that Morecambe Winter Gardens and Spilsby Sessions House are amongst the recipients of the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund.
Morecambe Winter Gardens Preservation Trust (MWGPT) has been awarded a £767,222 towards essential repairs that will allow the circle to be brought back into use. We’ve been supporting Morecambe Winter Gardens Preservation Trust from its early inception to the current day. This included vital governance and business planning advice, which has allowed MWGPT to evolve into the organisation it is today and laid the groundwork for its recent funding successes. We were happy to endorse MWGPT’s Heritage at Risk Capital Fund application and are thrilled that this has been successful.
Spilsby Sessions House receives a grant £1,006,000, which will be used as part of a wider project to carry out major repairs to the building so that it can be re-opened as a cultural and heritage hub. Spilsby Sessions House has received in-depth fundraising support thorough our Resilient Theatres: Resilient Communities cohort training programme and we encouraged its application to the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund.
St George’s Guildhall in King’s Lynn, another theatre that we’ve supported over the years, has also successfully applied to this scheme, receiving £721,330 to enable critical roof repairs and infrastructure upgrades, addressing severe damp issues.
