Latest news on Prince of Wales Theatre
On 21 January Cannock Chase Council voted against the proposed update to the capital programme for local regeneration works.
Theatres Trust CEO Joshua McTaggart responds:
"Cannock Chase Council made the right decision to vote against the proposal, which – if approved - would have seen a transfer of funds that would move Cannock one step closer to the demolition of the much-loved and previously well-used Prince of Wales Theatre.
All elected members should be able to see the updated development framework before making a final decision on the transfer of funds, especially considering the long-term impacts of demolishing Cannock’s only theatre.
Theatres Trust is committed to offering its expert services to Cannock Chase Council to ensure that the necessary evidence is gathered and due diligence delivered before any final irreversible decision is made.
This pro bono offer still stands, and we urge the Cabinet to meet with our team to discuss a way forward that is both economically sustainable while also putting the needs and desires of their residents at the heart of the decision-making process."
