48 theatres and arts centres secure Creative Foundations Fund grants

Good news for the theatre sector in the first round of the government’s major capital funding programme.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport has announced the 74 successful projects in the first round of the Creative Foundations Fund.

From the total fund of £96m, nearly £79m has been awarded to 48 theatres and arts centres. Major grant recipients include The Lowry in Salford, Rich Mix, Southbank Centre and Theatre Royal Stratford East and in London, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Birmingham Rep. A full list is available on the government website.

Theatres Trust warmly welcomes this much-needed investment in England’s theatres and live performance venues. We’ve played a central role in making the case to the government for the importance and benefits of investing in theatres – and this is a cause we will continue to champion as we know there are many more theatres who need similar levels of funding to meet the needs of modern and future audiences and productions.

Theatres Trust provides unbiased and expert advice on theatre capital projects, helping theatres to refine and execute their plans to best serve their local communities. We are looking forward to supporting Creative Foundations Fund recipients as their projects develop, as well as providing advice to organisations thinking of applying to future rounds.
