Planning application approved at Theatre Royal Margate

We welcome the news that the planning and listed building consent applications have been approved for Theatre Royal Margate.

Theatres Trust has been working closely with Thanet District Council to develop its vision for a restored, revitalised and resilient Theatre Royal Margate.

We were consulted  on pre-applications proposals relating to the project, which includes constructing an extension to the theatre, installation of new plant and PV panels to its roof along and general refurbishment and repairs to its exterior. We were happy to support the application for these vital works - read our full planning response here.

The theatre has been on our Theatres at Risk Register since 2018 in recognition of its importance as an architecturally significant theatre in an area with limited opportunity for engagement with the performing arts.

We are delighted that the plans have been approved to pave the way for the reopening of Theatre Royal Margate.
