Spotlight on Corporate Partner: Theatreplan

As part of our series highlighting the work of our Corporate Partners, Theatreplan shares details of its role in the recent capital project at the King's Theatre in Edinburgh.

Theatreplan is proud to have acted as theatre consultant for the duration of the redevelopment project at the iconic Grade A King’s Theatre. Working alongside the wider design team, we provided theatre planning, stage engineering, lighting, audiovisual and technical infrastructure design. The incredible transformation combines its restored heritage with upgraded facilities, accessibility and technical capabilities required to secure its future as a vibrant and sustainable performance venue for generations to come.
 
We led the development of major technical improvements, including the extension of the fly tower, replacement of the counterweight flying system, improved grid access, levelling of the stage floor, enhanced lighting positions and upgraded infrastructure throughout the venue. Improvements to the auditorium circulation routes and public spaces create a more welcoming and accessible experience for audiences, alongside better sightlines, reconfigured seating and vastly increased accessibility.
 
New multi-purpose spaces have also been introduced to support learning, participation and community activity, and backstage facilities have been radically upgraded to create better working environments for performers, visiting companies and theatre staff.
 
Importantly, historic features and original machinery have been retained and celebrated within the renewed building.
