Looking back at how Theatres Trust has supported Coventry's Albany Theatre

Consisting of an Arts Deco proscenium arch theatre and flexible studio theatre, the Albany Theatre is an important part of both Coventry’s heritage and its present-day cultural offer. The theatre opened in 1935 as part of Coventry Technical College, later extending to public events.

The theatre was nearly lost when the college closed and the site sold to developers, however the council stepped in and helped set up a charitable trust to run the theatre.

Theatres Trust has given The Albany Theatre Trust a range of advice and support over the years to ensure it can continue to play its important role in the city, including giving support over lease negotiations, fundraising and its capital project. We supported the theatre’s plans to create a new accessible lobby and infill a yard to provide a new studio, WCs and dressing rooms.

We were delighted to be shown the new improved facilities when our Board and staff teams visited Coventry for an away day in 2024.
