How Theatres Trust's support helped secure cultural re-provision in London's West End

Sitting at the heart of the £300m Soho Place regeneration project, @sohoplace is the first theatre to be built in London’s West End in 50 years. Theatres Trust played an instrumental role in ensuring its creation.

When the Astoria Theatre was earmarked for demolition to clear the way for the Elizabeth Line at Tottenham Court Road, Theatres Trust was a vocal advocate for securing a suitable replacement.

We gave advice to Westminster Council on what was needed for a successful theatre on the adjacent site and what planning conditions and obligations were necessary to ensure the developer did deliver it. This included it being a condition that the theatre’s technical fit-out was approved in consultation with Theatres Trust to ensure it met the needs of theatre operators.

We were therefore delighted when @sohoplace opened in October 2022, with Nimax, one of the West End’s most respected and successful theatre producers, at the helm.
