Closure of Seven Dials Playhouse
Theatres Trust responds to the closure of Seven Dials Playhouse.
Joshua McTaggart, CEO of Theatres Trust, says “The closure of Seven Dials Playhouse is a terrible loss to London’s, and indeed the UK’s, theatre ecosystem. The building has a long history as one of the few spaces in the capital dedicated to supporting early-career theatre professionals. Spaces like the Seven Dials Playhouse are essential to the vitality of the sector, ensuring that the future talent pipeline from all walks of life can be nurtured.
Our expert and impartial team will continue to work with stakeholders and other interested and impacted parties in the pursuit of viable options for immediate and longer-term sustainability of the theatre, so that we do not see permanent loss of such a vital cultural space in the London’s West End.
This development is a hard-hitting reminder that the climate theatres are operating in is getting more complex and increasingly challenging. Theatres Trust will continue its work supporting the sector to navigate the evolving financial and operational pressures facing theatres of all scales, and advocate to local, regional, and national governments where decisions and policies can help ease the burden on theatres.
